Today's research flights were cancelled due to low level clouds floating into the Longyear-fjord. There was a high change that the visibility in the airport would be lost, which would prevent to Polar aircrafts from taking off or from landing. Unlike commercial aircrafts, the two DC-3 machines are only able to fly in visual flight rules, when scientific instrumentation is mounted. To avoid a really long detour to the nearest airport in Trömso in case of fog later in the day, the team chose to stay grounded. New try tomorrow.
It was these small clouds that prevented us from measuring more clouds up the north.
